o Miscellaneous:

Married, two children, one brother, parents, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Chicago native. California semi-native. Lived in South Africa when I was eleven and twelve years old, outside Johannesburg in Sandton. Spent most of my life living in Northridge, California; in the San Fernando Valley just north of Los Angeles with a brief stint in Los Altos in the Bay Area in 1977.

I attended Parthenia Street Elementary School, in Northridge, (well, it was Northridge when I went there, although the "border" of North Hills [Sepulveda] has moved over the years so now it's considered to be in North Hills) through the first half of fifth grade. In South Africa I attended Sandown Primary School for standards four and five. (Sandown Primary moved from its old location next to the Sandton Civic Centre and appears to have been renamed to Grayston Prep) in 1994. Upon return to the U.S. I attended Oliver Wendell Holmes Junior High, (now a Middle School), also in Northridge, for seventh, eighth, and ninth grade. After that I attended James Monroe High School in Sepulveda (now North Hills) for tenth, eleventh, and twelvth grade. I also attended Homestead High School in Los Altos for the second half of eleventh grade. After graduating from high school I enrolled at California State Univerity, Northridge.

Now I live with my wife and children in Belmont Massachusetts, a small town outside Boston sandwiched between Cambridge, Lexington, and three other towns I'd never heard of before I'd moved here: Arlington, Watertown, and Waltham.

Over the years I've worked for several companies: Litton Data System Division (since acquired by Northrop Grumman); NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory; The X Consortium; The Open Group, on the X Project Team; ICS; InfoLibria; Oryxa; Sun Microsystems; and EMC.

Hobbies over the years have included camping, backpacking, downhill skiing (now I ride snowboard instead), bike riding (mountain bikes now), bouldering and climbing, stamp collecting, coin collecting, model building, model rocketry, genealogy, hacking (the good kind) on FreeBSD, and lots of other things I can't think of at the moment.

As a boy I was active in scouts. I was a member of 1st Parkmore in Sandton, South Africa; Troop 439 in Northridge, California; and Troop 400 in Los Altos, California. I earned Eagle Scout while a member of Troop 439. As an adult I am currently the scout master of my son's troop: Troop 304 in Belmont, Massachusetts, and before that was an assistant scout master. I recently completed Wood Badge and received my beads.
